In the state of North Carolina, the same insurance requirements that apply to automobiles also apply to motorcycles. You must show your insurance certificate to register your vehicle or take the driving exam.
Kempton Insurance Group of North Carolina, South Carolina, and/or Virginia wants you to have the policy protection you need so you can legally ride on the state roads. While some states offer more ways to show you meet the financial responsibility requirements, North Carolina only offers insurance as an option.
If you operate a two-wheeled vehicle with a motor of 50 cubic centimeters or greater capable of exceeding 30 miles per hour on a level surface, you must insure it. The state minimum insurance requirements are:
Notice that the state minimum requirements protect you from liability for damages to others. They do not protect you. You need additional insurance to provide for your injuries or damage to your motorcycle. You cannot assume that the other party carries enough insurance or is driving with insurance. These other needed policies include comprehensive and collision.
You must always take your proof of insurance with you. If you get stopped by police on a North Carolina road and do not have proof of insurance, you will be fined. If you cannot prove that you have insurance when stopped, your license plates will be suspended for 30 days. You will also pay a new license plate fee, a $50 service fee, and a $50 fine.
Without motorcycle insurance, you could lose your license plates and be subject to numerous fines. Contact the Kempton Insurance Group of North Carolina, South Carolina, and/or Virginia today to learn how to protect yourself with an appropriate motorcycle policy and set up the policy you need. Remember, basic coverage isn't always going to cover your bike. Discuss a full coverage policy to guarantee your finances and safety on the road.
